We Will Rest
We Will Rest
An assemblage sculpture divided into two sections: Work (on the right) and Rest (on the left). This sculpture is a gentle reminder that rest is equal in value to work, and not a luxury but a necessity. The left half of the piece highlights imagery referring to privacy and relaxation, featuring an unusual vintage photo of a Black woman relaxing. The right half of the piece references child care and domestic labor, suggesting unpaid but vital labor. Inspired by the rest philosophy of author Tricia Hersey, AKA “The Nap Bishop.”
